đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«Expanded Polystyrene, plastic #6, styrofoam. No matter what you call it, it’s all the same and here to stay. Literally. The world produces more than 14 million US tons of polystyrene each year. Americans alone throw away around 25 billion Styrofoam cups every year. Because styrofoam is non-biodegradable, plastic litter makes its way into storm drains and floats out into our waters. The foam might break down into smaller pieces but it won’t degrade completely for hundreds of years, if at all.
♻Since recycling plastic #6 can be especially difficult, I have found that using alternatives is the best route when limiting styrofoam use. I keep a glass to-go container in my car in case I need one and bring my own cup most places to avoid using a styrofoam or other plastic disposable cup. It’s ok to start small, you just have to startâ˜șïžđŸŒ±
